WHO IS DOM MOSQUEIRA?

It’s not often you see someone swimming in the ocean with a helmet on, but one look at the wave barreling down on Dom Mosquiera and you quickly realize why. A humble photographer from Mexico who somehow made his way to Tahiti by sailboat. Within a week of setting foot on this island met his future wife and never left. To say it was meant to be would be an understatement. While he’s always been a creative at heart with a love for surfing it is really upon arriving in Tahiti that he put the two together, and there couldn’t be a better place for that to happen. Tahiti is home to arguably the most beautiful wave in the world, Teahupo’o. Looking to gain the respect of the locals Dom decided early on that whenever it was breaking he would be in the water, and he’s made good on that promise, never missing a significant swell in well over a decade. Through a combination of relentless tenacity, an artistic eye and a fearless attitude Dom quickly became a mainstay at this world famous wave. Always looking to sit in the most critical positions, no matter how big it got, he prioritized artistic creativity over personal safety and it paid off in spades. He quickly started to really churn out unique imagery and the world took notice.

Now as an established mainstay in the industry Dom has worked with every major athlete and brand and his images have graced cover shots of every major magazines, including Surfers 50th anniversary cover, but spend some time with him and you’d never know. You see Teahupo’o only breaks a few times a year and when it’s not you will find Dom hanging out at home with his wife and kid living a very “normal” life. A calm laid back family life contrasted with moments of total chaos all the while equally at home in both. Dom lives an inspiring life and we hope we’ve done him justice with the film we made. Welcome to our blog and thanks for taking the time to check us out. Being our first post we figured this would be a good opportunity to tell you guys exactly what it is that we do at Pirate and Palm, and what you can expect to see being released on our page. In short we are a boutique production studio, but more to the point, we tell stories. We tell cinematic stories. We create the adventurous story telling films that we would want to watch but often can’t find. We have always been fascinated with people who followed their passions, lived with an almost singular focus, and done so successfully. Living the type of lives that don’t fit into our societal norms. The lives most people dream of. The ones that leave us wondering how these people pull it off? What did they do differently that not only allowed them to pursue their passions, but were actually able to do so with real success. Leading self sufficient, thriving lives in high risk, unconventional ways. We spend our days seeking out these individuals and telling their stories through our short films. We have focused on artists, athletes, and adventurers that threw caution to the wind, laid it all on the line, and actually pulled it off! Find out what makes these high performing individuals tick. Dive into the minds of some of our generations most fascinating humans through cinematic adventures told through our lens. We will be releasing teasers content and behind the scenes stories to go along with and build up to the release of the actual short films.
